Some sort of progress, at leastposted Aug 31st 2007, 9:24PM
Mood: Bitter
I've been working on an arrangement of parts of Mozart's Requiem for rock instruments. I've used midi in the past for creating audio files of music, but they really don't sound very good. Especially guitar's. So I set up an old computer, put Windows Me on it, and installed Pro Tools Free. Given that this particular version of pro tools was meant to run on windows 98/me machines, I thought it would run great on my 1.9GHz, 512mb of ram computer, but it's been nothing but a battle.
I should be able to play the existing tracks while recoding new ones, but it can't even handle recording a track with nothing else. It slows down in parts, and gets choppy and distorted. The midi tracks seemed to play fine at first, but I can't get them to start on time with the song. There's always a delay. And when I try to export an audio file, they don't play at all. I ended up recording some guitar parts in another program (using a metronome to keep myself in time), and just using pro tools to put them together, but that still left me with just guitar.
And to top it off, I tried to change some of the settings in pro tools, when a message came up telling me that, "changing this option will automatically save and reopen the current project." It reopened fine, but instead of saving, it wiped everything out. I guess I'll have to find something else to use.
I'm on break from school for a month, starting in about a week. I've promised myself to do some work and submit something then. I've already got one arrangement planned, hopefully I can come up with something original as well.
Thank you so much, that's really good to hear. I've been much better at actually putting work into music recently, so hopefully they'll be more submissions coming in soon.
